Richard (Chenming) Tang is a data scientist and a mission-driven edtech practitioner aiming to bring inclusive and quality education to everyone around the world, with the aid of technology. He has spent more than 7 years in the Silicon Valley Bay Area and Chinese edtech ecosystem pursuing edtech innovations, gaining diverse experiences from academia, big and mid-market edtech firms, startups, and non-profit and philanthropic sectors.Since the emergence of LLMs, he has been seeing too many edtech companies prioritizing speed and scale at the expense of learning outcomes and AI safety in the edtech industry. At the same time, he identified huge barriers for industry practitioners to translate theoretical findings from responsible AI research and policy guidelines into actual products and services. These had prompted him to found Learnest, pushing forward an agenda that would work to ensure technology-enabled education systems are safe, robust, and ethical, so that ALL learners can thrive with and benefit from powerful technologies such as AI. Richard holds an M.S. in Education Data Science in Stanford Graduate School of Education and a B.A. in Economics from University of California, Berkeley. His hometown is Shanghai, China.
Anvit Garg is a graduate student currently studying Education Data Science at Stanford University. He holds a BS in Social Sciences from Minerva University, a unique undergraduate program trying to revolutionize college education by allowing students to live and study in seven different countries across four years.
He is deeply interested in using edtech products to design better classrooms and improve teacher efficiency, especially in developing countries like India.
Outside of work, you can find him playing squash, listening to futurist podcasts, and trying out new restaurants.
